Sing It!

Get Yourself Focused

All of us have had our “awkward years” where we felt like we didn’t do things right or were embarrassed about the way we looked. As we are growing up and learning to express ourselves, it is sometimes hard to remember that what makes us beautiful is being confident in who we are. We are all different and that is by design. God created a beautiful song in each of us and it’s the only one like it. We need to Sing It!

Read Genesis 1:27 & 1 Corinthians 12:12-26

The other day, I was taking a walk and I heard lots of different birds singing. There were lots of warblers and a Cardinal and a really loud Titmouse. They were all really pretty and I was enjoying their songs, when along came a big bunch of crows. How many of you know what a crow sounds like? They go “Caw Caw Caw” in kind of a nasally voice. I felt like it ruined everything. I couldn’t hear the other birds very well and the crows sounded awful to me.

Later, I got to thinking. Crows aren’t pretty birds and they don’t have a pretty sound, but they must be happy at times just like other birds. How do you think they express it? It may not sound pleasant to us, but it is their voice, so they like it. I wonder what they think our voices sound like?

Everyone has their own way to praise, sing, express joy. Some birds (and people) are loud! Others are quiet. Some are colorful. Others are simple. All of them are beautiful, not because of what they look or sound like, but because of what they mean.

The meaning behind what you do is much more important than how it comes out or what others think of it. If you are trying your best to do the right thing and express joy in what you are doing, it will be beautiful. God understands all of the ways his people and creatures express themselves; so He thinks they are great, even when our human eyes and ears don’t. Genesis 1:27 says “So God created mankind in his own image.” I Corinthians 12:18 says “But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.” You are part of the body of Christ. Be true to who God made you and He will love what you are doing.

We should express things in our own way. We should try to understand the way others express themselves too. God created a beautiful song in you and it’s the only one like it - so - Sing It!

Let Us Pray…

Lord God, thank you for creating each one of us uniquely gifted to do great things. Help us to have the confidence to express ourselves in a way that is pleasing to you. In Your loving name we pray. Amen
